Being Happy or Successful, What would you choose?

Being Happy or Successful

I have never talked about such things until lately when most of my thoughts have become philosophical. Sometimes, I feel it’s the motherhood hormones which are still all over the place. But then I feel may be I am growing old and becoming wiser. Haha… Whatever it is, I like having these conversations with myself. Being happy or successful, what would I choose?

Success is quite luring but I fear it’s ephemeral, it doesn’t last long. It brings happiness which is also short lived. We all know, one can’t stay at the top for a longer time. And, when the downfall comes, it brings darkness with it. But does that mean one should never wish to be successful?

My heart says we should look out for happiness, it will show us the path to success. Our ultimate goal should be chasing happiness or dreams rather than success.

Being happy is the greatest form of success

And, you know the best thing about happiness, it’s everywhere around us. But we take it for granted.

Being happy or successful, what would you choose? #beinghappy #success #successful #choice

When I started blogging in July 2017, I just wanted to prove myself that I still have that in me. And, I am not a lost soul, yet! I had no major expectations from it. And, I just wanted to be happy knowing that I’m doing something productive in my free time. (I bet most of the SAHM must have felt that)

Soon, people were liking my work, I was getting all the support in the world and I started getting paid collaborations only after 3 months into blogging. I was the happiest because my new found hobby was now giving me returns.

Would you believe me if I tell you that for the last three decades I had an impression that I have zero talents in me. I had been thrown out of dance and singing classes stating the same. But I always had a passion to learn new things, to do the impossible! And, I never stopped believing in myself though I need a push every now & then.

But, it is kind of fun to do the impossible! Isn’t it?

I know there are numerous people out there, who think they are useless. People who think they can’t do anything in their life. And, if I talk about new mothers who are right now struggling with this new phase. Some of you must be going through postpartum depression, others might be feeling like they are the most horrible mothers. And, many of you must be thinking that your life is over now. I know because I was this person once.

But, STOP! Stop thinking like that.

You are still the BEST because you are unique. There is no one else who can take your place. You have come to this world with a purpose which you need to figure out. Till then, you have to do what you are doing and believe in yourself that only you can do this. But, this is not all.

You have to keep dreaming & keep challenging yourself too. Because this is how you grow and this is how you find your purpose. Don’t stop believing in yourself because you too can do the impossible.

Find out what you want from your life, if it’s challenging, work a bit harder. Define shorter goals, celebrate small achievements. Look around yourself, there are many little happy moments waiting for you.

My ultimate goal is to be happy! And, I’m in no rush to be successful, I just don’t want to miss my happy moments.

Do you also indulge in such thoughtful conversations with yourself? What would you choose, being happy or successful? What’s your theory?

Great take on the prompt! being happy and successful are the two sides of a coin. But if we are happy then no one can stop us from being successful. After all, a happy soul is sought after!

Very well put Neha. Staying happy always comes first. What is the point of being successful but feeling emptiness inside? What’s the use of getting the name and fame but loosing our true self?

I loved the honesty behind your post Neha. Realistically, I believe happiness is more important than success. Success brings with it only shortlived happiness.

We all live for those happy moments! I’m one of them too, success comes later on or maybe it takes trial and errors to reach that level, but happiness, on the other hand, is easily achievable. I’m glad the way you spoke about happiness and success and at the same time inspiring everyone who has lost that ray of hope 🙂 Well written prompt post and this is how I talk to myself at times 🙂

Agree with you Neha, If one is in search of happiness other things are bound to follow. It is important to have happiness in what we do otherwise the things would be boring soon. And it’s important to be true to self, happiness is what we look for at the end of day

As i mentioned in my reply to your tweet of this post that i will share my view after reading this post,so here it is…sorry to say but i cant agree with your view towards “success”…success does not mean to be at the top always, success means proving your abilities with time, achieving something that you yearned, success means to reach your goal overcoming the TOUGH obstacles and if you can do this you will naturally be happy.

On the other hand we can find happiness in small things…but you cant spend entire life doing all those small things.

Success should be there in this world, the more bigger it is the more positive message and teachings it leaves for the next gen, it shows different paths, different ways to fight the battle of life, it encourages other.

Thanks, Jyotirmoy for reading and replying. I am glad to read a different point of view. And, I want to mention that what I wrote is what I feel and it is in no way means that others should also agree with it. For you, success may be more important, for me, it’s happiness which leads me towards success & not the other way around. Thanks once again, I really appreciate.
