Fun Activities at RiverMist Resorts
Hello lovely people, welcome to my blog. If you’ve read my first post about our stay at RiverMist Resorts in Chikmagalur, you already know how much we needed that break. The peaceful surroundings, the cozy cottages, and the warm hospitality, everything was perfect for a relaxing getaway. But what truly set this trip apart were the activities at RiverMist Resorts. And for someone like me, a vacation isn’t complete without a bit of adventure. RiverMist Resorts offered all of that and more, making it an unforgettable getaway for our whole family.
One of the biggest reasons I had RiverMist on my wishlist for so long was its perfect mix of nature and thrill. While the resort offers all the comfort you could ask for, it also lets you experience the wild side of Chikmagalur, from trekking through lush jungles to walking in a river stream, from off-road jeep rides to stargazing under the clearest night sky. Sounds dreamy, right?
What Makes the RiverMist Resorts Special?
One of the best things about RiverMist Resorts is the fun filled activities, thoughtfully designed for all age groups. Whether you’re an adventure seeker, a nature lover, or someone who just wants to unwind, there’s something for everyone. My 9-year-old son and my 69-year-old mom both had a fantastic time, proving that the experiences here cater to different energy levels and interests.
The resort follows a structured activity schedule, so you don’t have to plan anything in advance. Just go with the flow and enjoy! Some activities are guided, while others can be done at your own pace. Here’s a look at the activity itinerary we received upon arrival:

Exciting Activities at RiverMist Resorts
With so many exciting activities lined up, we decided to take things at our own pace over the two days.
Day 1: After lunch, we decided to take it slow. My mom wanted to rest for some time so she went to the room, while my husband, Nemit, and I made ourselves comfortable near the pool, soaking in the beauty of our surroundings. You get ample time after lunch to rest, relax, or simply enjoy a swim at the pool before the evening painting and fish-feeding activities begin.
Around 4 PM, there was a painting activity, which Nemit and my husband eagerly participated in, while I took the opportunity to rest in the room for a bit. A little me time never hurts, right? They had set up a painting board in the lawn outside the reception, providing drawing sheets and paints for everyone. You could either paint or try a fun nature activity, collecting leaves, flowers, and twigs from around the area to create a beautiful collage.
Later, we had tea and went for the campus drive, one of the most exciting experiences of the evening. They take you around the property in a 4×4 vehicle on an off-road trail, and we got to stand at the back and enjoy the bumpy ride. Definitely a must-try!
We did this activity on both days. On the first day, we weren’t sure how safe it would be, so my mom chose to sit in the front while the three of us stood at the back. But after seeing how much fun we had, she didn’t want to miss out! The next day, she joined us at the back, ready to experience the thrill herself.
After returning, we went for fish feeding at the pond near the resort entrance. Such a simple activity, yet so calming. We spent about an hour at the pond, just watching the fish gather around and gently nibble on the food, it felt so surreal.
The Magic of the Night Sky
Next up was stargazing, and Nemit was beyond excited. Luckily, the sky was clear, and the weather was perfect. We could see Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn with the naked eye, but looking at them through the telescope? That was on another level. We even spotted three of Jupiter’s moons, and Saturn with its rings looked absolutely stunning! Easily the highlight of our day!
The last time we had such a mesmerizing view of these planets through a telescope was during our weekend trip to Kausani in Uttarakhand, where we visited a planetarium. But experiencing it here, in the open wilderness, made it even more special.
After stargazing, it was time for nature connect, an activity my mother and I absolutely loved. They arranged the chairs in a circle near the pool, and once everyone was seated, all the lights in the resort were switched off. We were also asked to turn off our phones.
And then… complete darkness.
The sky was filled with countless stars, and for ten whole minutes, we sat there in silence, simply listening to the sounds of nature. It was a moment of pure magic. My mother and I wished it lasted longer, completely lost in the serenity of the night.
But after ten minutes, they lit the bonfire in the middle and played some soothing meditative music in the background. The warm glow of the fire, the soft music, and the crisp night air created a surreal atmosphere, one that felt both calming and rejuvenating.
Exploring the Night Life of the Forest
We wanted to sit there longer, but if you have an energetic kid, you know how that goes! So, we moved on to the next activity, the night walk. It’s a guided walk around the property, focusing on the night life of the forest. They pointed out different insects and birds, shared interesting facts about the flora and fauna, and even told us some intriguing stories. My favorite was the story about how figs are pollinated, so fascinating! If you don’t know, you should definitely look it up on Google.
By this time, we were all exhausted and ready to crash. But Nemit? He was wide awake, eagerly listening and asking questions. His curiosity for nature always amazes me!
Calling It a Day
After the night walk, we had dinner, which was once again a delicious buffet spread. We were so full and tired that we went straight to bed by 9 PM, pretty early but it was necessary because we had an early nature walk planned for the next morning at 7 AM.
And with that, our first day at RiverMist came to a perfect end!
I didn’t plan for this post to be this long, but I truly loved everything about our stay at RiverMist Resorts and couldn’t help but share my experience in detail.
To be continued… Stay tuned for Day 2 activities!

Thank you Neha for sharing so many facts about this wonderful nature resort-Rivermist.
The pictures show the beauty of this place and how much you all enjoyed the stay. I too love such green and peaceful places.
Superb! The way you described all the activities sounds so much fun. The best thing was you can enjoy all of these at your own pace. My favourite part was star gazing. I always find it dreamy and surreal. Eagerly waiting for Part 2!
Not much a travel person but your experiences are worth a read.
The resort has a vareity of activities planned for all. the idea of exploring the woods seem quite adventurous. will be waiting eagerly for your activities of day2.
My new love is stargazing. So, I am floored to know about the night sky watch and night walks. What a beautiful way to know nature in all its colours. This sounds like an awesome place.
I have bookmarked Rivermist :). When I was at The Taj Exotica in the Andamans, I did all of these activities which were actually for kids. My daughter went scuba diving and I had time to kill. I was told that shell painting and duck feeding , catching fish were activities for kids. I retorted that grannies and kids were same so let me do them 🙂 I went star gazing on the beach but with naked eye. it was enthralling.
That sounds amazing! Honestly, activities labeled “for kids” are often the most fun and stress-free! Loved your spirit—grannies and kids enjoying the same things is the best way to experience life. Star gazing on the beach must have been magical! Hope you get to visit RiverMist soon and relive that playful adventure!
Very interesting. How many days trip would be ideal? Is it better if we go alone or as a group with more families? Is the resort very expensive? Thanks for sharing this information. Also, when is the best time to visit Chikmangalur?
Thank you, Janaki! I was actually going to cover all this in the last part of my blog, but since you asked, I’ll share it here as well. We stayed at the resort for 2 nights, but honestly, one more day would have been perfect. If you also want to explore Chikmagalur along with the stay, 4-5 days would be ideal.
As for going alone or in a group, that totally depends on your travel style—if you enjoy company, a group trip would be fun, but if you prefer peaceful vacations, going solo or with close family is great too.
The resort has all its prices listed on the website for different room types. We were 3 adults and 1 child, and we paid 25K per night (discounted price), including all meals & activities. Yes, it is on the expensive side, but the experience was worth it.
Chikmagalur is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit is September to May. Happy Travels!
You have piqued my insterest in Chikmangalure region in your last post, and now with this one, I am sold. Next long trip I am planning is Chikmangalur only!!!
I had already decided to do River Mist for summer holidays this year when I read your first blog itself. With these exciting and relaxing activities that you describe so beautifully, RiverMist is definitely going to happen for my family.
I’ve been to Chikmagalur, and it’s truly a beautiful place for nature lovers. I haven’t tried these activities there, but I have experienced all of them here in Muscat.
Every expression of this post making me feel that its time for me to take action and visit the resort for a peaceful, calm and enjoyable experience.
Sitting in the dark in nature without electricity and being off the grid, wow! sounds like an experience one must indulge in regularly. I totally loved these activities and the bonfire one reminded me of the last post I shared for Dazzle. Must’ve been so relaxing
Rivermist Resort looks like a perfect nature retreat! The activities sounds amazing, especially the river trek and stargazing experience.
After reading this, I am really yearning for a vacation – mind went back to all the resorts I have been to!
Your post is goading me to plan a trip to Rivermist resort with my family! While my kids would love their time in the pool me and the husband are all for long nature walks. Star gazing sounds perfect!
Very Interesting Activities. specially Star Gazing and Nature walk. how was the river walk ? is it alongside river ? Generally granny people don’t allow kids to walk near the river. What is total cost for the family?
Thank you! Star gazing and nature walks were definitely highlights. The river walk was beautiful, it’s along the river, not too deep inside, and felt quite safe. But yes, elders often worry about kids near water. The resort staff guided us well, so it was a fun experience. The total cost depends on the room category. You can check their website or contact them for exact pricing!
This resort looks like so much fun! We are yet to visit this part of India! So many exciting activities!
After reading your blog, have passed on the name of the resort to my relatives and asked them to check its availability. I too have kept a note of this place. such a detailed post
What a fun place to just relax and unwind, especially since it is curated for people of all age groups! Such happy lovely photographs too 🙂
