How to Make the 5th Birthday Special for my Son? #TravelingWithKids

Nemit’s Fifth Birthday

Hello friends, hope you all had a wonderful start to the year. Ours was quite different since we decided to stay at home, unlike the last 4 years when we were out & went all crazy on New Year’s Eve. But it was still as exciting as always. Now, January is special for us for one more reason, and that is our son’s birthday, #NemitTurns5. Yes, it is Nemit’s fifth birthday in a few days! And I really can’t control my excitement anymore.

But there’s a problem!

Before moving on to the birthday discussion, I want to show you guys our New Year Special video. Here we have reviewed the year 2020 by recreating some moments (good and bad) that we can never forget. And while making this video, we realized that the Year 2020 was not that bad!

Now coming back to the problem I was talking about.

This year we have no idea how to celebrate Nemit’s fifth birthday. His b’day is on 19th January, and we have not planned anything yet for his special day.

You may ask why?

Well, just like all his other birthdays, we wanted to make it special by planning an exciting vacation for him with the family. But all our plans went down the drain due to Covid-19.

Though most people have already started traveling, we have still not made up our minds about it. Just trying to keep it safe for our family’s sake. Till December last year, we were hoping that the scenario would change and we might travel once again in January. But no, nothing has changed, at least for us, so no travel plans this time.

I was going through his birthday videos from the last 4 years, and I thought, why not combine them into one. And that’s when I got the idea of writing this post. Here’s what we did on Nemit’s 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th birthday.

Revisiting Birthday Memories –

First Birthday (2017) – We planned Nemit’s first International trip to Malaysia. It was a 9-day long vacation, and we visited Kuala Lumpur, Taman Negara & Langkawi. And, on Nemit’s birthday, we took him to a famous theme park, Sunway Lagoon. We all had a blast that day!

This January we can't travel, we can't party, and we are literally out of ideas. Need suggestions to make our son's fifth birthday special.

Second Birthday (2018) – For his 2nd b’day, we planned a 10-day long trip to the Andaman Islands. And on Nemit’s b’day, we visited Ross & Smith Islands, popularly known as the Twin Islands. The two islands are connected with a strip of white sandbar, which makes them unique. Nemit had the whole paradise island for himself to enjoy his special day!

Third Birthday (2019) – On his 3rd b’day, we planned another International trip to Thailand. It was a week-long trip, and we stayed at Krabi in an Airbnb. Nemit had the most amazing time there because this one was an impromptu trip & we got to ask his preferences too.

Fourth Birthday (2020) – This was Nemit’s most special birthday because along with the special vacation, he got to celebrate with his friends as well. I call this our lucky trip because it was our 1st trip of the pandemic year. We visited Goa and spent a day in Mumbai, exploring the food & some famous places like Chowpatty & Marine Drive.

On Nemit’s b’day, we did the island hopping tour, watched dolphins, played in the sand, and swam in the ocean. Again, a memorable birthday!

I have taken a few video clips from each of Nemit’s birthdays and made this video, ‘Revisiting Birthday Memories.’ Do check it out; you may find some inspiration to plan a birthday trip for your child too.

We have been having long discussions at home about what to do this year to make Nemit’s birthday as exciting & memorable as the earlier ones. But nothing seems to strike well. And this is the only worry which is haunting me right now.

How to make our son’s 5th b’day special?

We are totally clueless!! Could you please help us with some unique birthday celebration ideas? Pleaaassseeee Help!!!?

We still have the weekend to make it exciting, keeping our fingers crossed and waiting to get some awesome ideas from you guys.

Oh, your pictures are so warm and they speak a lot about how much you enjoyed the trips. You can keep a role play picnic. Pretend as if you are going for a picnic. Pack everything like you are going. From one room to another you can play that way. Wherever you are planning to set the picnic, lay own the food and drinks. Have the music on and a few games like dancing in the newspaper. Watch his favourite movie together. And if possible video call his friends and make them wish him.

You gave us some fan ideas to celebrate birthdays once this COVID scare is over. Your memories are so touching. Reminds me of how much I miss the old normal and how we have come a long way to the new normal. Looking forward to the new celebration idea. Advanced Birthday Wishes to your little one.

I would say that the best way is to ask him what he wants and recreate it at home with DIYs. Btw I loved your walk through the memory lane. Makes us nostalgic to another level.

Yes, this was a year of zoom birthday parties! It’s great though that for the last four years you were able to take nemit somewhere nice! What great memories you have! I can’t remember right away, but I think there are a lot of resources on the net where you can visit places virtually!

Celebrations have all been effected greatly due to pandemic and less of traveling is the best way if I may say so. Watched the video and it’s so wonderful to have such nice birthdays and memories to look back in future. Happy birthday to Nemit in advance.

Such a cute video, Neha! We’ve all had muted celebrations this year but with proper precautions in place travel within India isn’t too difficult I guess. Why not take him to some national park? I’m sure he’ll love the experience!

As your family is travel lover, I would suggest take a virtual tour of your fav place or watch a movie that has loads of adventurous travelling. You may get transported to different place virtually. Loads of love to Nemit on his coming birthday 🙂

Wow, it’s such a joy to watch these videos Neha. The pandemic has definitely changed the ways we enjoyed our birthdays and anniversaries. But you can plan an impromptu road trip to some nearby place and have fun or go for a picnic at any nearby spot.

Thats an amazing idea to spend money and make memories in the best possible, unconventional way. I have always found birthdays cliché however mine have always been celebrated in a pompous manner. I only feel guilty to break the tradition. 😅

Such adorable memories. It’s lovely how each year you have done something special.
This year could be about just the three of you doing something together. Perhaps you can plant a tree/s and name them.

We celebrated my twins fifth birthday two months back. Kept it simple due to lockdown but special. Spent the day at home but the way they wanted. Organized a virtual birrthday party for them and decorated the house as per their fav theme. They had good fun. Good luck to you for Nemit’s birthday and congratulations on the big 5.

Travel I feel with kids is liberating for their growing minds. They grasp so much from such experiences. It is great that you have taken him at so many places and I can see the boy loves his travel escapades. Happy Birthday baby.. Loads of love.
