How to Make an Amazing Travel Video?

Travelling has always been an inherent part of every person’s life. It allows people to make some beautiful memories that they can cherish forever. And, what’s better than cherishing these travel memories with your loved ones by making a fascinating travel video, right? However, creating high-quality, engaging videos is what many people struggle with. So how to turn a family vacation and moments into a film you’d like to see again and again?

If you are also looking for answers to this question, you are right. Whether you are planning a family trip to the mesmerizing beaches or mountain hiking, here are some tips you must follow to make an amazing travel video from your family vacation.

Use the Right Filming Equipment

While it is okay to use a smartphone to film a vacation video on your smartphone, you must invest in a DSLR camera or an HD Camcorder if you want to create a professional-looking video or if you plan to create multiple video transitions. If you are moving to a holiday destination that needs a durable camera more appropriate for a tough environment, it is better to purchase an action camera.

In addition, if you have the funds available and ample space in your luggage, you can also carry a drone camera. It will help you take the cinematic aerial footage and will be a great addition to your holiday movie!

Do Not Shoot Everything You See

It is common for every person to feel like capturing every minute of their family vacation. However, you must understand that not every minute of your holiday might be fascinating to film and watch again and again. Thus, to steer clear of the trouble of undergoing hours of editing, it is prudent that you film only some parts of your vacation.

Furthermore, it is better to use the parts you will most likely use when making the final edit while making your videos perfect using a video maker. Another reason you must restrict your video filming is because you will hardly get any time to enjoy your trip with your family.

Try to Interview Your Family Members and Local People

Recording what you are witnessing and experiencing during your family holiday is amazing, but what about what you think and feel about your vacation? Therefore, it is essential to create a well-rounded video that flawlessly sums up your family vacation by taking some vlog-like interviews with your family members!

Photo by Larry Crayton on Unsplash

So during your family vacation, take some time to ask your family members about how they feel, what they love the most, and other related things. Furthermore, to make your video more engaging, it is better to shoot interview videos of the locals (especially when you are traveling to a foreign country).

Think About the Story You Would Like to Convey.

If you aspire to make your travel video look cinematic, it is necessary to think about the story you would like to convey. You might begin with why you have selected this particular destination for your family vacation. If this is somehow connected to your childhood memories, filming old photo collections with your childhood photographs in that very destination might be a pleasant backdrop for the upcoming video.

Build Diverse Footage for your Travel Video

When filming a family vacation video, it is always better to experiment with the perspectives and angles to make your video more diverse. If you have a DSLR camera, a camcorder, or a drone, it is prudent to use them to capture spectacular bird’s-eye videos of the area or fantastic hues of the corals and fish you’ll glimpse under the water. These travel videos can serve exceptionally to shoot beautifully in various places.

You can likewise broaden your videos by shooting quick clips and creating images that you can add to the final editing. For example, shoot some exotic birds or the tides moving onto the seashore or some close-up photos of the residents with an impressive appearance. Such small details will let your video show the destination’s surroundings agreeably.

Remember That Video Is Always About Motion.

Motion is the only thing that makes travel video different from travel photography. Shooting stationary constructions is tedious and meaningless as you can reasonably give the area’s surroundings via the picture.

Also, take care that you use a video transition to make your video look more engaging and well-connected. You can also film your loved ones enjoying the beach waves, your parents dancing or any other funny moments that will help you relive those memories later.

Try to Get Some Variety in Your Videos.

Give your vacation videos some variety (how you film them and what you are trying to shoot) to make them seem less like a home film and more like a perfect documentary! For example, if you are on a family vacation in Spain or Mauritius, do not simply shoot stunning pictures of the equatorial panorama or video of your children making a sandcastle at the beach.

Photo by Dave Hoefler on Unsplash

Furthermore, you must try to include a broad assortment of other images. Such as, tape selfies in front of an impressive background or a creative clip of the tides hitting against the coast. Or, simply a short clip of the seashell you found in the sand. In addition, building unconventional videos like these will assist you in better incorporating more details into your video and make it the perfect picture of your holiday.

Furthermore, it is advisable to shoot your video from diverse angles to make it look more engaging. It is where a drone or an action camera will come in handy since they can make it feasible to shoot from an aerial stance or even underwater.

Connect Your Videos in a Meaningful Way

This is likely one of the most difficult and time-consuming aspects, even when editing a travel video with the most seamless online video maker. Most family vacation videos look like random pictures and videos joined together with no meaning or narrative behind them, which is okay. However, if you plan to make a great travel video that you want to cherish for a lifetime, it is better to ensure that the video clips remain connected.

The Bottom Line

To sum up, we can say that making beautiful videos is an art. And, you will need some time to master it, just like any other art. It is more like a trial and error process that concerns experimenting and failures. So when you want to create stunning videos of your family vacation, never be afraid to experiment. Grab your camera at any moment that seems crucial for you and your loved ones. And, record your emotions to relive them later.

Why Pack Baby Liquid Cleanser in a Baby Travel Bag?

You must be wondering why am I writing about traveling when the majority of people are staying home right now. And why the focus on baby liquid cleanser? It’s been 5 months now that we have not stepped out of our house except for grocery shopping. I am sure you too have been staying safe indoors with your family.

But now the situation is changing, people are accepting the new normal and have started a new way of living. Some have even started taking short trips to meet their family. And, many are already planning a vacation for the next year. We are one of them but yes we won’t be traveling out of the country until the COVID-19 cases become zero. And we are hoping that 2021 will be different.

A few days back in a candid discussion with my husband, I asked him this question. How do you think we will travel post this coronavirus pandemic? And he said it will definitely not be the same as it used to be earlier. He was right and we went on to discuss more on this. Later that day, I decided to redo our packing checklist and realized that now our travel bag will also have a sanitizer, disinfectant & hygiene kit as essentials.

And, after giving some thought I added natural liquid cleanser to the list too. Here’s why I think you should too pack a liquid cleanser in your travel bag if traveling with a baby (infant or toddler).

Why Pack Baby Liquid Cleanser?

Now, comes the question of why baby liquid cleanser is an essential item to be packed while traveling with a baby. I have realized the importance of using a natural liquid cleanser only during the lockdown. For the past 5 months, we have been focussing a lot on maintaining hygiene and cleanliness. We wash hands multiple times in a day, sanitize all the surfaces which are touched regularly, we are even disinfecting vegetables and fruits.

I have been using this Mother Sparsh Natural Baby Liquid Cleanser for the last one and a half months. Initially, I was using it for cleaning my son’s water bottle, his toys, and other things in his playroom. I found it really good and then I started using it for washing fruits and vegetables too.

The best part about this cleanser is that it is plant-based and has green apple and basil as key ingredients. Apple extract is a natural cleanser and basil is anti-bacterial and anti-microbial in nature. Being natural, this liquid cleanser is completely safe to use even for baby’s stuff.

You can wash the feeding bottles, pacifier, breast pump, and even bottle sterilizer with this Mother Sparsh cleanser. It removes up to 50% more milk film from baby bottles and also eliminates the unpleasant odor from the milk residue. And, if you worry about the tough stains then leave your worry to this cleanser, it works like magic.

This cleanser is free from harmful toxins, paraben, sulfate & synthetic dyes. It is IFRA certified for allergen-free fragrance.

Now if this natural baby liquid cleaner is this good and works amazingly in killing harmful bacteria then there should not be a question of why to pack it for traveling. In fact, this should be on the top of your checklist if you are traveling with a baby during or post-pandemic.

Here, I am sharing a list of essentials to pack in a travel bag if you are traveling with a baby (infant or toddler). I am also recommending my favorite brands below which I have used in the past.

20 Essentials to Pack in a Baby Travel Bag

Product Image Source – Google

1 – Feeding Bottles & Bowls

Whether it’s a day trip or a long vacation, packing 2-3 feeding bottles (for bottle-fed babies) and at least 2 small feeding bowls with a spoon is a must for babies and toddlers.

Brand Reco – Bottles by Avent & Bowls by Mee Mee

2 – Sippy Cup

Sippy cups come really handy for toddlers to keep them hydrated while traveling. Most parents don’t consider it essential to pack but as per my experience, it’s a must. You can easily keep a watch on the water intake and even serve juice and other liquids in it. It is way better hygienic.

Brand Reco – Avent (Classic and Premium both are good)

3 – Thermos for hot water

We have always carried a thermos with us to carry hot water when Nemit was a baby. If your baby is formula-fed or you need to make instant cereal on the go, then you should definitely pack a thermos in the baby travel bag. And I feel it will be an essential item to carry while traveling post-pandemic.

Brand Reco – Milton

4 – Milk Powder/Formula/Cereal/snacks etc.

Again if your baby is formula-fed, then don’t forget to pack the milk powder. During our Maldives trip when Nemit was 13 months old, I had even packed home-made multi-grain cereal & finger snacks for him.

Brand Reco – Milk powder/formula as suggested by the pediatrician

5 – Milk Powder Dispenser

Just packing a box of the formula is not enough because on the go you won’t be able to keep it fresh for long. So, yes, a milk powder dispenser with 3-4 compartments is a must.

Brand Reco – Babyhug

Product Image Source – Google

6 – Baby Liquid Cleanser

I have already explained the why above. Just like a sanitizer, carrying a baby liquid cleanser should be a must when traveling with young kids in the post corona era.

Brand Reco – Mother Sparsh

7 – Bottle & Nipple Brush/Sponge

No need to explain this. You will need a brush or sponge to clean the bottle or baby utensils.

Brand Reco – Brush – Mee Mee & Farlin, Sponge – Any

8 – Bottle Sterilizer

If your baby is in the age range 0-12 months old, then you should definitely pack the bottle sterilizer. Infants are at a higher risk of getting sick so it’s better to take all precautions when traveling with a baby.

Brand Reco – Avent 3-in-1 electric steam sterilizer

9 – Breast Pump (if using)

Again, no need to explain this. If you use a breast pump to express milk then it’s an essential item to be packed for traveling too.

Brand Reco – Manual – Babyhug, Electric – Medela

10 – Diapers & Changing mat

If your baby wears diapers, disposable or cloth, it’s important that you pack enough. If the diapers are taking a lot of space in your travel bag then you may check with the hotel if they can arrange that.

Brand Reco – Mamy Poko for daytime and Pampers for nighttime

Product Image Source – Google

11 – Wipes/Tissues

Never ever forget to carry lots of wipes and tissues when traveling with young children. And, if traveling during or post-pandemic then you should also keep a pack of anti-bacterial wipes. For babies, I only prefer natural wipes.

Brand Reco – Mother Sparsh for baby and Babyhug for materials

12 – Diaper Disposal Bag

Many parents make a big mistake by not considering the disposal bag as an essential item. Please, parents, never throw away diapers without covering them.

Brand Reco – Any (look for biodegradable & sealable bags)

13 – Baby Care Products

Don’t forget to pack baby care products.

Brand Reco – 5 Best Natural Baby Wash for Sensitive Skin from Indian Brands

14 – Favorite Toys/Books

Parents make another common mistake by not packing their baby’s favorite toy or book. These things can make a gloomy baby happy in no time.

Brand Reco – Your child’s favorite

15 – Pacifier/Soother

If your baby needs a pacifier then don’t forget to pack it on the top of the diaper bag. Because this may come really handy while soothing a cranky baby.

Brand Reco – Avent soothers are good

Product Image Source – Google

16 – Essential Medicines/Hygiene Kit

There’s no need to mention this but medicines & a first aid kit should be on the priority list. The important medicines should be kept in the diaper bag. And now a hygiene kit consisting of face mask, face shield, gloves, sanitizer, etc. should be counted as essential to pack during and post-pandemic traveling.

As recommended by the doctor.

17 – Clothes/Bib/Shoes/Cap

Don’t overpack clothes and shoes. Usually, mothers want to pack matching tops, bottoms, socks, shoes, and everything. Please don’t do that. Here are 5 Simple Packing Hacks for Traveling with Kids.

Brand Reco – Babyhug, Ollypop, Carter’s,

18 – Ergonomic Baby Carrier

If you plan to explore a place then do pack an ergonomic baby carrier, it will be a savior for you.

Brand Reco – R for Rabbit & Soul

19 – Swimming essentials

If you plan a beach vacation or stay at the hotel with a pool then packing swimming pool essentials is a must. I have a blog post on pool essentials to pack in travel bag for kids.

20 – A Small Cosy Blanket

If your baby sleeps in the same blanket daily then do pack it in the bag. It will act as a comforter during long flights/journeys.

The X-Factor of Traveling

What? Is that term ‘X-Factor’ even related to traveling? Hey guys, I am sure today’s title must have piqued your curiosity. In fact, I am very excited to write on this topic. It is somewhat special and close to my heart. The X Factor of Traveling! That unique factor which if added to our travels can make the experience truly extraordinary.

Traveling is fun for some and an experiential journey for many. When I used to travel with my parents my expectations were different as compared to now when I travel with my own child. When we plan a family vacation, we try to design it in such a way that there are takeaways for everyone.

If you have noticed in my travel posts, we love to travel with Nemit’s maternal and paternal grandmothers. It adds a special spark to our travel experience and makes our time spent together truly memorable.

So, what’s the X-factor of traveling? Is it fun or experience? Or the journey and the memories? Or is it that special spark you add which makes traveling memorable?

Let’s see what’s the x-factor of traveling and how it makes the whole experience extraordinary.

What is the X-Factor of Traveling?

I want to answer this question with this quote by Amelia E. Barr –

“The great difference between voyages rests not with the ships, but with the people, you meet on them.”

I hope you have guessed it now. But if not, let me spill the beans for you. What makes any travel experience extraordinary are not just the journey, destination, scenery, fun times, and adventure but also the ‘PEOPLE‘ we meet along the journey. The impression they leave on our memories is something that gives a completely new meaning to our experience. The kind of people you meet can turn your travel experience from ordinary to extraordinary.

I have mostly seen girls and boys traveling solo or in groups engaging and interacting with the locals & other travelers. It’s a great way to connect with interesting people and make friends. But, I have rarely seen families making such connections. Obviously, due to safety concerns & trust issues with strangers.

Does that mean we can’t offer such enriching experience of meeting & connecting with locals to our kids? Not exactly!

When you are traveling with kids, look around yourself. Ok, not too far! Look a little closer.

Our Guides cum driver from our trips

Do you see your cab driver who is also your guide for the time of your stay in their city/town/village? You spend maximum time with him. Encourage your child to interact with him. But, make sure you are not disturbing him while he’s driving. He can be your storyteller, narrating all the local interesting tales of that place.

Chef & Hotel staff from Kerala, & Krabi

What about the waiters who serve you at the restaurant. You loved their service, why not leave them a good word. Let your child say ‘Thank you’. They will love this gesture. Oh, and don’t forget the chef. If you really liked their signature dish, call the chef and appreciate his work.

Property Managers & Caretakers

Who else do we meet on our travels? The hotel staff or if you are staying at a private property then the owner, manager or the caretaker of the property. Talk to them and tell them how much you liked their special attention. They can recommend you some really cool local places to check out.

Nemit with local kids from Kashmir & Shillong

You worry about your family’s safety and stay away from interacting much with the locals. But your kid can definitely talk & mingle with the local kids. They are not a threat. Such an amazing way for their social development. Isn’t it?

Think about it.

What if all these people you meet on your vacation do not treat you well? Or your experience is not very great. There’s a chance that it may spoil your whole vacation mood.

People we met during our travels

Whereas, when you meet such loving and caring people, it makes your whole experience enriching. And, that is why I feel for any travel, the people we meet along our journey are the X factor that makes the whole experience extraordinary. We never leave an opportunity to say thanks to such people who add so much value to our vacation.

What do you think about it guys? I would love to read your thoughts on this. Write them down in the comments below. And, don’t forget to share this post with your friends and family.

That’s all for today, see you guys on Monday with the second last post of this travel series.

Traveling with Kids

One thing which I keep hearing from parents is that traveling with kids is hard. Of course, it’s difficult, kids are an added responsibility on vacation when what we actually want to do is rejuvenate and have a stress-free time.

Last year we traveled a lot with our toddler. To be precise, we visited 8 new destinations in 12 months. It included almost all types of travel, road trip, weekend getaway, adventure trip, train travel, long flights, beaches, hill stations, plains almost everything except international travel.

Some of the trips were 7-10 days long and were quite hectic. But thanks to our love for traveling and superb planning skills (not exaggerating), we made the best out of all those travels. So, today I will be sharing some of our tried and tested tips to make family travel with kids stress-free and a lot more fun.

You may want to read – Top 5 Travel Essentials when Traveling with a Toddler!

5 Tips to make traveling with kids a fun family affair

1- Clear out the misconceptions

The biggest misconception most parents have even before taking a vacation is-

traveling with kids is the most difficult thing to do.

Or, you should not travel with babies, it’s a lot more work.

And, of course, toddlers can make your life hell on a vacation with their tantrums.

NOT TRUE AT ALL!!!

Traveling with kids can be a little difficult but it is so much fun. If you will look closely, kids teach us the actual meaning of having fun.

I found traveling with a baby much easier. You may need to carry a few extra things but that’s all, your baby won’t even put his preferences.

We have traveled the most with our toddler, 3 international trips and 14 trips within the country in the last 2 years.

Com’on guys, traveling is not that difficult with kids, it just needs a bit of preparation & planning. So, before planning a vacation, make sure you clear out all such misconceptions. Also, stop listening to people who discourage you from traveling with a child.

2- Proper planning is the key

I always put a lot of emphasis on planning and it is actually an umbrella term & covers a lot many aspects of traveling. It includes planning trip itineraries, booking hotel stays, making checklists of what to pack, finalizing day trips, deciding activities for kids, etc. And, if it is your first trip with your child, then planning plays the most important role.

You may also read – What to pack for keeping your toddler engaged while traveling?

A well-planned trip can turn your first travel experience with your kids into the best experience of your life. Our first ever road trip to Amritsar with Nemit (then 2-month-old) was a blunder due to lack of proper planning. But we learned from our mistakes and our next trip to Goa with Nemit (when 7-month-old) turned out to be super fun & we even extended it by 4 more days.

If you are not sure about traveling with your child, try taking a day trip or a weekend trip. You will get to know the problems and you can plan better for longer trips.

3- Follow a schedule & keep it simple

Young children usually have a set day & night schedule. Nemit wakes up every day around 5-6 am, he has a set meal time, school time, afternoon nap time, park time, family time, reading time & of course bedtime. It is very rare that he does things out of his routine. Although the schedule has become a lot more flexible now that he’s 3+, it was quite stringent from 6 months to almost 36 months. And, that schedule helped us a lot in planning things accordingly while on a vacation.

The most common mistake which parents do is not following this schedule. Instead of planning things as per their child’s routine, they make the child adjust to their plan. This obviously will lead to tantrums in toddlers & crankiness in babies.

4- Keep ample time for free play

Kids have a huge reserve of energy which if not burnt out can turn them into deadly volcanoes. And, you would not want that volcano to erupt while you are on a vacation. So make sure that you provide them ample free play time to burn off all their energy.

You can take them to the pool or to the kids’ play area. Each parent can take turns to keep a watch while the other takes a break. Or, better you join your child’s play. Nothing can make them more happy to see their parents spend time them.

5- A family vacation is a family vacation!

Another very important point is to enjoy a family vacation like a family vacation only. You can’t expect thrills of traveling with a group of friends out of your family vacation. It’s not that traveling with family can’t be thrilling, it’s the expectations which can ruin the things.

I have seen a few families in which taking care of the child is solely a mother’s responsibility. Now, I can understand how that would feel to the mother on a vacation. She’s still doing everything which she does at home whereas her husband is in full vacay mode, enjoying & relaxing.

And, I have also seen children too attached to their mothers that they don’t let the father do anything for them. Both these situations have something wrong in it.

There’s a dire need for equal parenting here. When both partners work together in raising a child only then they can truly enjoy family bonding. I know I’ve diverted from the topic but it is one of the major reasons for parents, not taking up family vacations. Think about it!

Well, that’s all for now. See you guys tomorrow with another post.

My Travel Bucket List

Hey guys, today’s post is about my travel bucket list. Just taking a small break from the theme of traveling with kids. In this post, I want to talk about my travel dreams. Traveling for me is not just a leisure activity. But it’s an emotional experience which stays with me in my memories forever.

For people who like exploring new places, traveling becomes their teacher & inspiration. For me, travel doesn’t only mean visiting new places, it’s much more than that. I develop deep bonds with those places, the mountains, the beaches, the cities, and the people.

When I am traveling, I feel deeply connected to my soul.

My Travel Memories

I was only 11 years old when I realized there’s a traveler in me. I used to watch a travel series every day which was aired on the Discovery channel in the ’90s – Travelers. And, I remember that was the first time I made a travel journal of all the places I wanted to visit.

The desire to travel was so strong that I would even argue with my parents to allow me to go on school trips, even if there was no one going from my friends.

My first school trip was to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary when I was in the nursery, just 3.5 years old. My first flight experience was from my school trip to Agra when I was in 1st std. And, one of the best memories of my school trips is from Goa (11th std). I was the only science student traveling with the arts and commerce sections & I knew no one. It was the trip when I made some of my best friends during my last days in school.

I am all about planners and journals.

When it comes to travel planning, I like to keep a travel journal where I maintain my travel bucket list. Until a decade ago, all I wanted to do was travel to all the famous tourist places in the world. However, when I first traveled to Kerala with my mother in 2010, I realized the true beauty of a place doesn’t lie only in popular destinations.

Kerala 2010 (with mom)

Instead, it’s hidden from the general crowd & can be found only in off beaten paths. Since then, I make sure to find some off beaten unexplored destinations and add those in my travel itinerary.

I am lucky that my husband loves traveling as much as I do & now I see a traveler in my son too!

Places & Adventures which I have already ticked off my Travel Bucket List (India)

So, here’s a list of 30 places and 10 adventure activities which I have already ticked off my travel bucket list. Some of these places I’ve visited multiple times. However, there are still many destinations which I want to revisit & explore some of the less visited locations there. Waiting for my son to grow up a little so that we can travel like backpackers family & explore the world. That’s our travel goal.

Dharamshala 2011

Things to Do in Andaman

Hello friends, today I am writing my 6th post on Andaman (thanks to #BlogchatterA2Z). And, this is also going to be the last one for this month. In my previous 5 posts, I have shared about all the places that we visited in North, Middle and South Andaman. I tried to share the maximum information to help you plan your trips better. And, in today’s post, I will be sharing 80 fun things to do in Andaman with family.

I have noticed that not many articles talk about traveling with kids especially in India. And, I really don’t understand why? I mean parents also deserve to travel, enjoy, and explore places, isn’t? Ok, I know many of you will say that it’s not easy to travel with kids. But, you can always plan kid-friendly holidays!

Let’s look at it this way, I had a difficult pregnancy & the labor was quite painful. It was not easy. The first 6 months were horrendous, I suffered from postpartum depression, it was not easy. It was not easy to keep a watch on a toddler who had just started walking. And, it was not at all easy to settle my son in a playschool. I had to sit outside his class for a whole month. I don’t even want to mention toddler tantrums. Nothing is easy!

It may be difficult to travel with kids because there are not enough means to make them comfortable. When a baby cries on a plane, parents are frowned upon by fellow passengers as if they have never seen a crying baby. One of my old colleagues (she was not a parent then) told me that parents should give some kind of medicine to their cranky kids so that they doze off during the flight.

This was the most disgusting advice I got on parenting. I have just one thing to say to such people. If you get so uncomfortable with kids around, you should consider booking a private jet for yourself or else, consider staying at home!

Well, I don’t want to divert from the topic but I really wish that parents ditch this thinking. If you really enjoy traveling or going on vacations or adventure holidays, you should keep doing that. Being a parent should not stop you from doing what you love!

Traveling is a therapy for the mind, body, and soul. And it works the same with everyone & benefits every age group!

Ok, coming back to the topic. In my previous posts, I have shared about the places that we visited & the things we did when we were in Andaman. But that’s not all about it. There’s a whole lot of fun things to do in Andaman. And, I am writing down all those things below. I am not going into details but I will leave the source links below since this list is experience plus research based.

Trek to Elephant Beach

Hi friends, I am back again with another post on Andaman Island. In this post, I want to share about our experience of visiting Elephant beach in Havelock Island. So far, I have taken you to the extreme North in the Andaman archipelago to Diglipur. And, to the Middle Andaman, where I took you on a mesmerizing journey to the Limestone Caves at Baratang.

In South Andaman, I took you on a cruise to Havelock Island. And in that post, I also mentioned about the best beach to visit with kids in Havelock i.e Radhanagar Beach. While Radhanagar beach is an ideal place to relax & rewind, Elephant beach is a perfect place to enjoy water sports and adventure activities.

So, while coming back from Radhanagar beach, we asked the bus conductor to suggest some fun activities we can enjoy as a family. It’s always better to check with the locals, they can be your best guides, you know! And he suggested a Trek to the Elephant Beach. He told us about the trekking path which goes through the beautiful jungle and leads directly to the beach. And, we decided to try that out the next day.

Trek to Elephant Beach

Next morning, we all were so excited about the adventure. We reached the exact location from where the trek begins. There were a couple of forest guards seated at the entrance where they were noting down details of people taking that trek.

We checked with them about the trail and asked them if it is safe to go with a 2-year-old child and 2 senior citizens. They said it’s a plain trail through the forest and if we can walk for 30 mins then we are good to go. Just then a local villager approached us & asked if we want to take a guide. We wanted to do this trek on our own and at our own pace hence refused him.

Beginning the trek

During the trek, something went wrong perhaps we should have hired a guide. Though, we are still not sure!

You may check our Andaman Trip Itinerary here!

And, the Trek Begins…

After completing all the formalities we started our trek. We anticipated that this trek could take around an hour since the guards said it is a 30 min trail. We had walked only 15 mins when we were joined by 2 foreigner ladies who were also grannies & they were friends.

Trekking going smooth

For the next 15 mins, we all walked together and chatted along the way. It was getting hotter, I remember it was not noon still we could feel the sun directly on our head. Even though it was hot & humid, we were enjoying the trek. But a moment later, we saw a big mud puddle in front of us.

There was no way to go around it, we had to walk through it. And when we walked into that puddle, we realized that this was going to be very difficult. It was not mud, it seemed like clay, very slippery and it was deep. We couldn’t keep our balance and had to hold on to the little branches hanging from the trees. Now, this was totally unexpected. And, we were not prepared for it.

Also, this was not the kind of adventure we were looking for!

But to our own surprise, we were quite thrilled after crossing that puddle. We were giving hi-fives to each other as if we accomplished some kind of a mission. We took a short break there.

Happy faces

You may also read – How to manage food for babies & toddlers while traveling?

We had no idea just after a turn, the whole path was covered with even bigger mud puddles. My mom told us that it had rained last night which might have resulted in this. But, forest guards didn’t mention this at all.

Millions of thoughts were crossing our mind. Maybe we were on a wrong path since we hadn’t seen anyone in the last 15 mins. Maybe we should have hired that guide. Our phones were not working so there was no way to call for help. Also, the 2 ladies who were walking with us, they suddenly disappeared. None of us saw them going ahead. All this was freaking us out!

We crossed another puddle and saw elephant poop on that path. Well, that just added to our anxiety. And we thought this is called elephant beach so there might be wild elephants in this jungle too. Oh my God, we were so terrified and all kinds of irrational thoughts were crossing our minds.

Just before getting into a big puddle

The next step was to calm down and look for a solution. In that particular moment when none of us was speaking a word and we could hear our heart’s thudding sound, I felt a moment of Nirvana.

And after some time, we all said together, let’s do this!

Although it took us another one and a half hour to come out of that trail, the feeling was idyllic. I was never so happy to see a beach in my life. We were covered with mud from head to toe. Yes, because at some places we had to crawl on our knees & bums to pass through the puddle.

Happy & excited to see the beach

I can never forget that trek. That 3 hr long trek taught me so much about life, balance, fear, love, will to survive, togetherness, moreover, accepting the situation when it is not as per our plan.

This is what travel teaches us and that’s why I want my son to travel and explore such places from this very early age.

Finally, we saw the white sand beach with the most beautiful turquoise water in the distance. We ran to the shore and cleaned ourselves and thanked our stars. We were happy we didn’t find any wild elephants!

Water Sport Activities at Elephant Beach

After relaxing a bit, we checked what all we can do there. We were shocked to know that they were almost closing. Yes, the beach closes around 3.30 pm. They clear off the beach by 4 pm as it gets high tides in the evening. And, it’s not safe!

We realized why we couldn’t find anyone on that trail. The officials at the beach told us that the best time to reach here is early morning.

Water Sport Activities

There were many activities to do, like snorkeling, banana boat ride, jet ski, and sea walk. We chose to go for sea walk since we had never tried this before. So, our mothers decided to relax on the beach and we left Nemit with them. And, booked a sea walk session for us.

Sea Walk at Elephant Beach – 2500/- per person.

It was a surreal experience to walk on the sea bed, circling around a big coral, and feeding colorful fishes with our hands. What did I like most about that experience? Making poses underwater and getting clicked!

Sea Walk

So, guys if you plan to trek to the elephant beach, do consider hiring a guide. And as I always say, be flexible, keep your calm and have a Plan B ready.

You can also take a boat to reach the beach.

Speed Boat

Speed boat transfer – 750/- per person

That’s all for today.

Safety Tips For Your Summer Vacation

Hey guys, summers are around the corner and most of you must have already made plans for your summer vacation. Going on vacation as a single person or a couple is an entirely different thing to going on vacation as a family with young children. Parents worry about a lot of things. And when they are away from home in unfamiliar surroundings – no matter how lovely, and exciting those surroundings might be – it can make things feel even more stressful.

A family summer vacation is meant to be fun and enjoyable. So it’s important to think about your safety and that of your family ahead of time. Put into practice what needs to be done, and then enjoy the vacation itself. Here are some tips on what you can do.

You may also read- How to plan a kid-friendly holiday?

1- Research Your Destination

You might have an idea of where you want to take your family on summer vacation this year, but before you go ahead and book it, make sure you do your research first. Not only should you take a look at flights, car rental, hotels, and activities. But look deeper to see whether the place is a safe one to visit with children (or at all).

PIN IT! Image Source- Photo by rawpixel on Unsplash

The best way to do this is to read unbiased reviews from people who have actually been to the destination you are considering. What did they think? Did they feel safe? Did everyone enjoy themselves? If you’re not sure or the reviews aren’t good, it might be best to think of somewhere else to go. The world is a big place and there are sure to be plenty of destinations that will suit what you are looking for.

2- Invest In Anti-Theft Items

It’s a good idea to put everything you need for a day out on vacation into one bag. It saves everyone having to carry lots of things around with them. The problem, though, is that this one bag can then become a target for muggers and thieves. The answer is to buy an anti-theft backpack from Zoomlite. This way, no one will be able to slash open your bag and steal the contents. And, everything will remain safe and secure.

3- Have A Plan

Your kids will know not to wander off, but sometimes excitement or a large crowd can mean it happens anyway. It’s important to know what to do if you lose someone when you are out and about.

The first thing to do is to ensure your contact details are with the child. This might be a piece of paper in a bag or pocket. Or it could be a wristband with all the relevant details on it. Secondly, take a photo of your kids in the morning. That way, if you need to let people know what they are wearing and what they look like, you have the most up to date photo possible. Next, once you arrive at your destination, look for an easy to find landmark. It might be a road sign, a café, a billboard, or anything else. Tell your kids that if they lose you, to head for that landmark. And you will do the same so you can meet one another there.

It’s not something most parents will want to think about. But having a plan in place just in case and not needing one is better than needing a plan and not having one.

Travel Food Tips for babies & toddlers

The most difficult thing to manage while traveling with babies & toddlers is their food. Hence, in this post, I’ll be sharing some of the best travel food tips which I’m sure will be helpful while planning a trip with kids. Also, I will be covering travel food tips for 0 to 3-year-old kids, which are the most difficult child stages when it comes to traveling.

When we talk about planning a vacation with kids, many moms start getting anxiety attacks. Because for them traveling with kids is not a vacation. It is still easy to manage kids at home however while traveling it becomes a herculean task for some. What if I tell you that with proper planning & the travel food tips am sharing, you too can enjoy your vacation to the best?

If you have been following me for some time now, then you must be aware of how much we love traveling with Nemit. We have traveled extensively with our son (who is presently 3 years old) since he was a little baby.

And with experience, we have learned a lot of travel tricks which I love sharing with my friends & readers. So, without wasting any further time, let’s get back on with the topic. And help you plan a perfect vacation.

You may also read- How to plan a kid-friendly holiday?

I am categorizing the travel food tips according to age from baby to infant to toddler as every stage has a different food need.

1- Travel Food Tips when traveling with a baby (1 to 6 months old)

It is usually said that the mother & the baby should stay at home & take rest for the first 45 days after delivery. Since the newborn babies are prone to infections as their immune systems are not fully developed. And, mothers need time to recover & regain energy.

20-days-old Nemit

But, this is also the time when we mothers feel the most restless & just want to run away from all the hectic & sleepless schedule. If you happen to plan a vacation when your baby is in the age group 1 to 6 months old, you actually don’t have to think much if you are exclusively breastfeeding.

In case, you are using bottle feeds (either pumped milk or formula milk), I would suggest you to either skip traveling for the first 6 months. Or, not to travel far & long. Simply because there will be a lot to pack. But, if you can manage that, then go ahead & have fun!

Tips for traveling with bottle fed babies

Carrying a sterilizer is a must

Pack at least 3 bottles (or more) depending on how much time you will be spending outdoors

Don’t forget to carry the powder dispenser (if the baby is on formula feed)

Also, a flask to carry hot water while on the move

Nemit’s 1st road trip (2-months-old)

Nemit’s 1st official long road trip was when he was 2 months old. We literally had to pack the whole house in our bags even though he was exclusively breastfed. So, plan wisely! Try staycation instead of a vacation.

2- Travel Food Tips when traveling with an infant (6 to 12 months old)

Once your baby starts semi-solids, it’s a good time to take them out on a vacation. However, you will still have to pack a lot since their food needs a lot of preparation.

Now, again if you are breastfeeding, your load of packing will lessen down. But, there’s no hiding if your baby takes the bottle feed.

The good part is you can plan the weekend getaways or a small vacation if you have just introduced solids & following the 3-day rule. So, you can just carry on with the breast/bottle/formula feed & give mashed bananas or any other fruit in between feeds.

Nemit’s 2nd long trip was Goa when he was 7 months old & that was also his first flight experience.

Goa Trip (7-months-old)

Tips for traveling with infants

Do pack the above-mentioned things if your baby takes the bottle feed

Carrying a sterilizer is still a must

Also, keep a small bowl, spoon & a masher (all sterilizable)

Give fruits which can be peeled off (banana, mango, chikoo, papaya, etc)

You can also carry baby food such as cerelac (homemade cerelac is a great option)

For 8 month+ babies, you can carry snacks as well, very helpful to keep them occupied (carry teething snacks is also a great option if your baby is teething)

Don’t experiment with outside food for your baby, give only freshly cut fruits & homemade food/snacks.

I would suggest not to give any packaged food to babies at least for a year. Also, avoid sugar & salt.

3- Travel Food Tips when traveling with a toddler (1 to 2 years old)

Most babies start walking around 12-18 months. They get more curious & interested in exploring their surroundings. You can easily carry them in a stroller & they will enjoy the ride as well as the experience.

Nemit’s 1st International Trip (12-months-old)

We planned an International trip to Malaysia for celebrating Nemit’s 1st birthday. We went completely prepared & had a great vacation.

Maldives Trip (13-months-old)

That made us plan another International trip to the Maldives just after a month & that too was super amazing.

Next vacation was a 10 day trip to Kerala when Nemit was 19 months old.

Kerala Trip (19-months-old)

At this age, babies don’t remember anything but they enjoy a lot if the plans are made keeping their comfort & needs in mind. A year old baby starts eating almost everything. Most parents even start giving them the same food that the family eats. We did the same & that helped a lot. Just carry the travel essentials and you are sorted.

Tips for traveling with young toddlers

No need to carry the sterilizer anymore, make sure you clean the bottles & bowls with hot water immediately after feeding & again clean with boiling water before next feed.

Let your toddler eat whatever food is available, do check for excess salt/sugar/chilly. Also, make sure that your baby is not allergic to any food item.

If they don’t like the food, ask for bread, plain rice, baked beans, baked potatoes, french fries (these are easily available)

Carry a lot of snacks with you (preferably homemade & healthy)

Fruits are always a savior (at least in our case)

4- Travel Food Tips when traveling with a toddler (2 to 3 years old)

As per our experience, 2 to 3 years old toddler stage is the best when it comes to traveling & exploring new places. These little humans are just amazing if we can just ignore their tantrums. They love everything & enjoy every new experience.

For us, 2018 turned out to be really amazing as we were able to achieve most of our travel goals. We traveled to 9 new places in India in just 1 year. Check out our travel list below-

Jan – Andaman Islands

Feb- Jim Corbett National Park

May- Kasauni

July- Udaipur & Mt. Abu

Aug- Pondicherry

Oct- Kashmir (Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg)

Nov- Kaziranga National Park & Meghalaya (Shillong, Cherrapunjee, Dawki)

Dec- Mukteshwar & Nainital

Dec- Manali (Solang Valley)

By this list, you must have gotten an idea of how much we’d enjoyed traveling with our toddler. We packed only 2 medium sized bags even for the longest vacation & we survived.

Also, we didn’t carry any specific food items with us except some of Nemit’s favorite snacks. And, we even allowed him to eat packaged snacks, cookies & chocolates (for the first time ever once he completed 2 years, and in limit). Only because, we wanted to travel light.

So, in my opinion, this toddler stage is the best to plan vacations, road trips & adventure trips. They will enjoy every bit of it & you can be totally stress-free.

However, always be prepared for any difficult situation which may arrive while traveling. Stay calm & focussed while dealing with any such problem.

I have only 1 tip to share here-

If you really wish to travel care-free with your baby, start a routine early on. This may include following a sleep schedule for babies & maintaining good eating habits soon after they start solids. Also, the more you travel with your baby, the more they get used to the changed environment & new faces.

Another important tip for booking hotel/resort-

We recently traveled to Krabi, Thailand with our 3-year-old & stayed at an Airbnb villa with an attached kitchenette. So far, this was our best stay, we carried all ready to cook meals (rotis, parathas, biryani, dal, rajma, noodles & pasta) with us. And, prepared everything on our own. So there was no need for cutting & chopping veggies and no wasting time while cooking. And, we saved around 30k in our budget by not eating out at the restaurant.

Booking an Airbnb is also a great option when traveling with infants, as you can prepare baby food easily. You can even skip carrying a sterilizer since you can simply boil baby’s bottles, bowl & spoons.

I hope I’ve answered all your travel-food related questions. If you still have any queries, you can write them down in the comments below. Or, can simply DM me on Instagram (where I’m most active).

How to plan a kid-friendly holiday?

All you mommies and daddies out there, hope you all are doing great! If you want to know how to plan a kid-friendly holiday, this post is for you guys!

We all know how our lives change after having kids. We try to fit into our old routine but no, that’s not happening. And the same happens with our travel plans too. Most of the people I know have told me that they find traveling with their kids really challenging. Well, life itself is a challenge, do we stop living it?

No!!! Right? We try to find out ways to make it simple and fun on day to day basis.

So, when you think of planning a vacation with your kids, you need to think of ways how you can make it kid-friendly.

I am listing down 5 ways which have helped us in planning kid-friendly holiday every time–

1- Start with flight bookings.

Choose a flight time when your kid is usually low in energy or sleeps. Like for us, morning flights always work. Nemit is an early riser so by the time we board a flight he’s already exhausted. When he’s low in energy it’s quite easy to handle him and make him sit at one place for a longer time. 9 out of 10 times he chooses to sleep.

2- Then comes the hotel booking.

Try to select the hotel/resort which has a dedicated play area for kids (indoor/outdoor). If you can’t find a hotel with a play area, at least check if they have an open lawn. If you are going for a beach holiday, try to book a beach resort so that you don’t have to travel far and have easy and quick access to a clean beach. Last week, we visited Mukteshwar in Uttarakhand and instead of booking a hotel we decided to stay at an Airbnb private cottage. The experience was absolutely wonderful!

3- Talk to the hotel manager.

When you have finalized a hotel for stay, take out time to make a call to the hotel and let them know about your room & other preferences. We prefer rooms on the ground floor and far from the swimming pool, mostly garden facing. Even though most of the information is mentioned on the hotel’s website, it is still a good practice to cross-check the facilities again over a call. Once you are satisfied, make the payment and book the room.

4- Things to keep in mind.

If you are planning a trip with your child for the first time, make it a short one and a leisure trip probably. Stay at only one hotel and visit nearby places. Take cues from your child, if you see he’s happy, excited and comfortable, then you can go ahead and test the limits. If you see your child is not interested in trying out something new, it’s better to take a back seat and follow his lead. Also, start talking about the holiday at least 7-10 days before taking the trip.

5- Kid-friendly holiday itinerary.

Before finalizing the itinerary, do search out a place for kids’ activities, be it a children’s park or play area, or an amusement park/theme park, etc. And plan a day dedicated just for your child.

Check out our Meghalaya trip itinerary – Traveling with a toddler!

We usually take Nemit to a kid’s park and let him enjoy in his own way. Or let him play in the pool for as long as he wants. Or play with him on the beach.

I can add many more points to this list, but I feel if these 5 things are taken care of, it will make you confident enough to go on a vacation with your kids. If you have any questions you can write them down in the comments below or you can also DM me on Instagram.
