Easy Breakfast and Snacks Recipe with Sooji

Hello friends, today I am sharing a recipe for the first time on my blog. Well, now that I am spending almost half of my day in the kitchen, I thought why not share my cooking chronicles on the blog too. So, here I am presenting an easy breakfast and snacks recipe with sooji. And you know what the best part about this recipe is? You can make breakfast and then use the leftover breakfast to make yummy snacks.

Ok, no more suspense. We are making Sooji Upma and Upma Rolls.

Sooji Upma is one of the most popular breakfast options in many Indian families. And the best part is we can use leftover Upma to make many other interesting dishes, especially snacks. Here, I’ve tried using leftover Upma from breakfast to make crunchy Upma fingers in the evening.

Nemit has named these snacks as ‘Upma rolls,’ and now whenever I make Upma in the breakfast, he reminds me to make Upma rolls in the evening. Here, I’m sharing a 5-minute Upma recipe also in case you want to know how I make it. It’s super easy & quick to prepare. Do try this snacks recipe for your kids, I am sure they will love it.

Easy Breakfast and Snacks Recipe with Sooji

Ingredients for Breakfast Recipe – Sooji Upma

  • Sooji (Semolina) – 2 cups
  • Curry leaves – 7 to 10 leaves
  • Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds (rai) – 1 tsp
  •  Black pepper (Kali Mirch) – 1/2 tsp
  • Chilli flakes – 1 tsp
  • Cooking oil – 2 tbsp
  • Salt – as per taste
  • Water – 6 cups

Cooking Time – 5-6 mins

Steps to make Sooji Upma

1- Heat a pan and add 2 tbsp oil. Now add 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds, curry leaves, 1 tsp chili flakes, and half tsp black pepper. Cook them for a minute and then add 6 cups of water. Let it boil.

2- Once the water starts boiling, lower the flame now slowly add sooji and keep stirring it. Don’t stop stirring otherwise;, the sooji will form lumps.

Note – This is how I make this, and it just takes 5-6 mins to cook. If you want, you can also add veggies to it to give it a healthy twist.

Our Sooji Upma is ready! Enjoy it in breakfast or as a light, healthy dinner. Now, it’s time to use this Upma to make crunchy Upma rolls.

Ingredients for Snacks Recipe – Upma Rolls/Crunchy Upma fingers

  • Upma
  • Boiled potatoes – 3 medium
  • Chat masala – as per taste

  • Kitchen king – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder (Dhaniya) – 1 tsp
  • Coriander leaves

Cooking time – 5-10 mins

Steps to make Upma Rolls

1- Grate boiled potatoes and add all the spices in it, mix well. Now add Upma and coriander leaves to it and again mix well.

3- Heat oil in a pan and fry them. You can shallow fry or deep fry as you like. But do that on a medium flame so that they turn out crispy from outside.

Serve hot with tomato ketchup. Nemit loves this snack, and whenever we have Upma in breakfast, we definitely have Upma rolls in the snacks.

Agreed! Suzi is very healthy for snacking but my kids don’t like this much, I use vermicelli instead of using this. But as you mentioned these recipes are tasty too, I will tell to my kids to see how Nimit is enjoying suzi snacks.
